Field Study

Field study is a critical element in exploring our Earth as the environment is the best natural classroom for humans to learn about the past and present Earth. Our field study covers a wide range of themes about our Earth , including plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, natural hazards, and geo-technical infrastructures.

Local Field Study

Local field study emphasizes Hong Kong’s geological history, major lithology, structures, mining activities and landforms.

Taiwan Field Study

Taiwan field study focuses on the tectonic setting forming the whole island, with associated rock deformation, volcanoes, earthquakes and submarine-marine geology. Monitoring systems of the natural hazards and corresponding infrastructures are introduced.

Wutaishan Field Study

Wutaishan field study concentrates on the ancient plate movement generating the central mountain belt in North China. Evidence of previous ocean floor, subduction and continental collision are reviewed by examining the various rock assemblages, geological structures, paleoenvironment and fossils.
