Prof. Hongfeng YANG Elected Solid Earth Section President of AOGS
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is proud to announce that Professor Hongfeng Yang has been elected as the Solid Earth Section President of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS).
Founded in 2004, AOGS is one of the largest and most influential geoscience societies in the Asia-Oceania region. It serves as a vital platform for exchanging scientific knowledge and addressing pressing geo-scientific issues among academia, research institutions, and the public. The society’s mission is to promote geoscience research and its applications for the benefit of humanity across Asia, Oceania, and beyond.
AOGS holds general elections every two years, selecting its president and eight section presidents. The Solid Earth Section covers a broad spectrum of topics including Earth dynamics and evolution, natural resources and hazards, and advanced geophysical techniques.
Professor Yang’s election is a landmark achievement—he is the first Solid Earth Section President from Hong Kong, a testament to the region’s growing prominence in geophysical research over the past decade. His leadership will help shape the future of solid earth sciences in the region and in AOGS, as well as foster greater collaboration across disciplines and borders.
Please join us in congratulating Professor Yang on this well-deserved recognition!
