CUHK Scholar Highlights the Role of Agriculture in Tackling Air Pollution and Climate Change

Professor Amos P. K. TAI of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), was featured in an interview with Wen Wei Po discussing how agricultural and food systems can be transformed to reduce reactive‑nitrogen emissions, improve air quality, and mitigate climate change.
In the article, Professor Tai emphasized that agricultural emissions—such as ammonia, nitrous oxide, and nitrogen oxides—represent a significant yet often under‑addressed source of air pollutants and greenhouse gases. His collaborative research, supported by the RGC Collaborative Research Fund (2024/25), integrates atmospheric modelling, field observations, and policy analysis to evaluate pathways for cleaner production and sustainable rural development in China.
The project ultimately aims to provide scientific insights to support China’s vision of building a “Beautiful China” through greener, more efficient, and more equitable transformation of its food and agricultural systems.
